General Dentist Warren
With recent research showing that some form of periodontal disease has been detected in a growing number of adults, the disease is, unfortunately, all too common in the United States. If you’ve been diagnosed with periodontal disease, realize that you are not the only one and your focus should now be on proper treatment. From the moment you are diagnosed, how you take care of your teeth each day is what will determine whether your gum disease is stopped, slowed down, or worsens. Our Warren general dentist, Dr. Huma Mirza, has found that there is a higher success rate when proper home maintenance and professional periodontal therapies are combined.
Periodontal diseases range from minor gum inflammation to more severe disease that ends up with serious damage to the soft tissue and bone that support your teeth. In the worst cases, the teeth are lost but we do our best to prevent that. Once periodontal disease has actually been diagnosed, Dr. Mirza will go over all treatment options with you. First and foremost, the general periodontal therapy objective is to control the progress of the disease. At our Smile Dental Boutique, Dr. Mirza does her best to achieve this by leaving the periodontal tissues in an easily workable condition and, if possible, restoring the supporting structures, including bone, gum tissue, and ligaments. Our Warren general dentist approaches treatment in various ways depending on your specific needs, such as, an initial cleaning and scaling, surgery, if needed for reducing deep pockets that remain under the gum line, oral or topical antibiotics, and careful daily maintenance on your part.
When your initial periodontal therapy is complete and your mouth is in healthier condition, we suggest you come in to see our Warren general dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings every 3 months. It’s also very important that your home care regimen be continued. All patients, regardless of age or dental condition, should have a general cleanings at least twice a year to prevent serious dental problems, including periodontal disease. Depending on your condition, our general cleaning on an adult could be basic or include a periodontal scaling and root planing. Root planing is a careful cleaning of the root surface below the gum line to remove plaque, toxins, tartar, and stains that may cause inflammation to the gum tissue and surrounding bone. This procedure is more intensive than a routine general cleaning and an important part of stopping any further progress of periodontal disease.
